About

“A life of feminine submission, of ‘contemplative purity,’ is a life of silence, a life that has no pen and no story, while a life of female rebellion, of ‘significant action,’ is a life that must be silenced, a life whose monstrous pen tells a terrible story.”
― Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar, The Madwoman in the Attic: The Woman Writer and the Nineteenth-Century Literary Imagination

Let’s be rebellious and tell our monstrous stories!

Inspired by the women who make up Gilbert’s and Gubar’s seminal work, I created this space to showcase that monstrous pen. With a focus on home improvement projects, frugal living, and just navigating the world as a middle-aged woman, this blog serves as a documentation of my life — the terrible and the beautiful. I hope to make proud the Edna Pontelliers and Bertha Masons and the nameless ones who walked the yellow wallpaper by being and doing and sharing. I have named it in the plural in the hopes that the future will have space for all of the other wonderful and mad women who inhabit my life. Enjoy!
